Third Guardians Training in 2018
Guardians Training CCP's guardians training on 'Eradicating Bedbugs' took place on May 5th, 2018 at Full Gospel Church, Kawangware. Irene Kerubo, CCP's staff shared the day's devotion on the topic of prayed based on 1 Chronicles 4:9-10. She enlightened the guardians on the importance of prayer in a Christian life. Including; spiritual growth, a mean of communion with God, a way of experiencing God's love, a way of asking and receiving from God and a channel of conquering forces of darkness. 'God answers everyone that has faith in Him. He answered Jabez and changed his story,' Irene said. Afterwards, Alex Maina from Bed & bugs Limited, Kangemi taught on the life cycle stages of a bed bug. They are egg, nymph, and adult. Eggs are laid along the edges of the mattresses and glued to rough surfaces. Bed bug females lay about 200 eggs, usually at the rate of three or four a day. In one or two weeks the eggs hatch into Nymphs. Nymphal period last 14 to 30 days. They then shed their skin five times before becoming adults. The average life span of the bed bug is 6-12 months and they feed every 10 days or so during this time. Bed bugs can survive many months without a blood meal and their reproduction is high. Anne Njambi, also from Bed & bugs Limited educated the guardians on how to get rid of bedbugs. She enlightened the guardians on how to launder infested garments and beddings. One should dismantle the bed frames, clean the area and spray insecticide. Spraying should be done every seven days for four weeks consecutively. Further she explained that bed bugs do not carry disease, they do suck blood from their host with piercing mouth parts but the bite is painless. The skin may become irritated or inflamed due to the salivary fluid injected by the bed bugs. A small, hard, swollen, white welt may develop at the site of each bite. In conclusion Stella Mwangi, CCP's Managing Director promised to support the guardians to buy the insecticide needed to eradicate bedbugs. The guardians will find half the money needed and CCP will take care of the other half. Stella, asked the guardians to be responsible by supporting their children. She emphasized on the importance of checking if assignment are done on time, pay school trip and collecting report forms and submitting them to their Social workers.
