July 2017 Guardians Training
One hundred and twenty three guardians attended CCP’S guardians training on the theme “Two cannot walk together unless they agree” held on July 8th, 2017 at Maranatha Community Centre, Kawangware. The forum was an opportunity for CCP and the guardians to talk candidly in an effort to enhance a better relationship between them. Pastor Fredrick Mmbwanga CCP’s Children and Youth Coordinator shared from Amos 3:3, that unless two people agree they cannot walk together. Explaining further he said, when the children of Israelites murmured and complained to Moses in the wilderness God was not happy because they refused to agree with him and with Moses. “Don’t forget where God has gotten you from’ he cautioned. He encouraged the guardians to agree with CCP and with God. Hilda Mwavishi, CCP Academy Head teacher talked about the importance of a constant communication between guardians and the school. She said it is important for guardians to care about their children education progress and discuss with the teachers. Other issues discussed included the need for mutual respect, active involvement in empowerment groups, prompt communication when there is a need or change of resident. CCP’s academic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was also discussed. Benard Okoth CCP’s Education Coordinator encouraged the guardians to seek clarity where they do not understand so that no one is misled. Harriet Mwari, CCP’s Communication Coordinator shared that Children need be loved, valued, acknowledged, affirmed, challenged and have set boundaries. Key in her address was the need to be positive and let children feel celebrated. At the end, Jacqueline Ngige, CCP’s Director of Finance addressed the guardians saying it is more important to invest in the children that to invest for them. Her parting shot was that CCP’s joy is the growth and development of our children. One of the guardians appreciated CCP for the support because her child who joined the program in grade one is now in grade twelve.
